THIS WEBSITE IS JUST A TEST RUN! It turned out to be a pretty good test run though. We made it to Morocco, our sponsors JustSaved 16 tonnes CO2, and the JustSaving concept flew. It’s now back on the ground, refuelling and preparing for it’s true launch flight.

In other words, I’m working on it. I’m developing the website so that I can open up the JustSaving tool to all of you who have eagerly asked to use it for your own crazy challenges. But it’s going to take some time, some money, and some expertise. So please, bear with me. And if you’re interested in helping out, give me a shout. hermione@justsaving.org is where you’ll find me.

As a taster of how it all started, here’s the initial home page from 27 July 2009:

Sponsorship with a twist…

Sara and I are cycling from London to Morocco, well, the Sahara to be precise.  That’s about 2,400miles. A long way.

Yes, I’ll cut to the chase – we’re asking you to sponsor us.  Please…

But not in the conventional just-give-us-your-money way, oh no.  I couldn’t settle for that.  We’re doing this for a cause that doesn’t need your money as much as it needs your action.  So that’s what we’re asking for – action. Simple, pure, and as easy as you like; just a straightforward, carbon-saving action.

You got it – the cause is climate change.

‘But what difference can we make’, I hear you wonder, ‘while governments and industries fail to play their part?’  My answer: A lot.

42% of the UK’s carbon emissions are a direct result of decisions that you and I make every day, at home and in travel. Forty two percent directly in our control.

So please, challenge yourself in my name, commit to a small change in your day, and see for yourself just how easy it can be to cut out a big chunk of carbon from your lives. We’ve set ourselves a target to raise 15,000 kgCO2 that’s equivalent to 60 flights to Morocco! Every action you make will take us a little closer, so get JustSaving now!

How It Works in five simple stages:

  2. Check out our tips and handy pointers
  3. We ride -  you JustSave your CO2
  4. Successful? Confirm and donate your carbon savings
  5. Keep up your new habits… or return to your old ones.

This is a new concept, a fresh new take on sponsorship, which is in its trial stages. It cuts out the middleman and directly gives people the information and personal motivation needed in order for us to tackle the massive global issue of climate change.  If you help me to prove it as a success through this Morocco ride test-run then I will roll it out on a larger scale when I return, through organising public sponsored events and developing the website to be an open tool available for all.

So, through sponsoring us now, the benefits are threefold:

  1. You learn to reduce your carbon footprint (you might also get healthier and wealthier in the process)
  2. We get spurred on and motivated through our endless days on the ride
  3. This venture proves a success, and I get to develop it into the next big thing in climate change engagement.
